Newsflash Archives > Merry Christmas
Dear friends,
Merry Christmas!
We have just completed Year 14 of our existence as a magazine covering Church and Vatican affairs. We hope you have enjoyed our publication, and we are making plans now for a still better publication during our upcoming 15th anniversary year. This will be our "Christmas present" to you, if our plans develop as we hope!
Our staff spent the past several months on a special project, which we call our "Russia Project."
We helped to organize and host in the United States, in Washington, a remarkable exhibit on the spiritual renewal of Russia in the post-Soviet period, and three performances of a moving "Christmas Oratorio" composed by Russian Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev, in Washington, New York, and Boston.
The first performance was on December 17 in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, which was completely filled for the occasion (more than 3,000 people attended).
The second was in the lovely Church of St. Jean Baptiste in New York City, which was also completely filled.
The third was in the Memorial Chapel at Harvard University, in the center of Harvard Yard, as snow fell, on December 20.
That evening, the orchestra and choirs filled the Harvard chapel with the sound of "Glory to God in the highest" in the Russian language, in a performance which was perhaps the most moving of the three.
The editor and staff of Inside the Vatican magazine would like to wish you a happy and holy Christmas.
As the words of the final refrain of the "Christmas Oratorio" proclaim, "Glory to God in the highest."
And also, "peace on earth, good will toward men."
Merry Christmas!
